School 40th Celebrations

 Budbrooke Reaches For The Stars!

Many important events happened in 1968 including man's first orbit of the moon in the Apollo 8 space craft - and the opening of the new Budbrooke School!

We are finding many ways to celebrate this special anniversary of our school's construction and one of the most exciting is by applying to NASA to be allowed to speak live to the astronauts on the Space Station! After a very lively whole school assembly, the Budbrooke pupils are very excited about this project and have been competing with each other to find the most interesting questions to pose.  The winners of this competition will be announced very soon!

During our 40th Celebration Creativity Weeks Year 6 worked in small groups to plan presentations about space and they shared this knowledge with groups of children in classes across the school.  The Year 6 pupils also led the Reception children in drama work about being astronauts and exploring space.

Our application spearheaded by Mr C Morgan (parent and leader of Imagineering Club) is on its way and we are hoping that we shall be successful - it would be a marvellous way for the pupils to commemorate this anniversary further.

Look out for more news here and in the press!

 The School's 40th Celebrations

Over a period of a few weeks, every child in the school had fun, using all sorts of methods to find out about things that have happened over the last 40 years.  They enjoyed researching the history of space travel, trends in fashion, breakthroughs in science and finding out about international and local events.

Earlier in the final week of our celebrations the children and staff of the school were given the opportunity to dress up in clothes from their Year Groups decade! There were some brilliant outfits - well done!

Pupils then marked this momentous event by sharing their knowledge with old friends of Budbrooke School using drama, songs and art work. This whole school performance was initially given to visitors (including Head of Children and Families, ex members of staff and Governors). During the afternoon parents were then invited to see the performance by their child's own class during an open afternoon.

Across the corridor display boards we presented all of the fabulous work we completed about our chosen decade.  We also filled the small hall with photographs of previous teachers and children across the 40 years, not to mention more fantastic work completed by Budbrooke Super Learners. These displays were then enjoyed by friends and visitors to the school at our successful Summer Fete on Saturday.

After an extremely successful day, we then led into more fun with a sell-out family barn dance and hog roast.

New School Motto Competition

As part of our 40th celebration we wanted to create a new one line motto which encapsulated the spirit of Budbrooke Primary.  Dozens of ideas for the new school motto have been suggested by members of the Budbrooke School community and a special committee of adults and children are busy judging the entries.  The winning new school motto is:

Forward Together - Together We Succeed

The Budbrooke Bears

There were many marvellous competition entries to design the T-shirt to be worn by the delightful Budbrooke Bears, which are being made to commemorate our anniversary.  The School Council decided that Holly in Year 6 created the best design and 300 bears shortly arrived wearing the winning design and were bought by children as a memento of the anniversary.

Time Capsule

On Friday 13th June 2008 Coventry and Warwickshire Radio interviewed the Head and four Year 6 pupils about the celebrations.  This recording with other important items of our time were planted in a time capsule.

Thank you to everybody who contributed to make our 40th Celebrations fun, successful and memorable!
